Chateau d’Exindre la Magdelaine
Amelius 2007

AOC Coteaux du Languedoc Gres de Montpellier

The top red wine from the Chateau d'Exindre, this is made from Syrah with a little Grenache and possibly a tiny bit of Carignan all harvested at low yields, and aged after a long fermentation/maceration for over a year in oak barriques, a significant proportion of which are new.

The wine is full and powerful; the nose is full of deep fruit, particularly purple plums, dark berries, and a touch of fruits of the forest, it also has a lovely trace of complex spice, notably vanilla and pepper. The palate is also generous, with plenty of complex flavours of fruit and spice, particularly rich dark red fruit coulis, blackberries, blackcurrant, plum, sweet spice, vanilla, and a hint of black olive and pepper. The tannins are silky smooth and the length is long. The wine is very satisfying to drink, it is rich and powerful, but it has a lovely balance and good complexity.
