Domaine Jordy
Frederic Jordy is today the proprietor of a domain that has been in his family since the 1850’s. Situated in the southern foothills of the Larzac plateau the terroir here is very complex with schist, various types of limestone with varying amounts of clay and ancient river terraces with sandy soils full of large rounded stones.
The grape varieties that Domaine Jordy grow are mainly Syrah, Grenache, Cinsault and Carignan, though in recent years they have been supplemented with a little Marsellan, Chenin Blanc and Viognier. The domain is also home to the rare old variety Servant, which today is only found in odd pockets, where particularly goos win was made from it in the pre-Phylloxera days.
Frederic’s philosophy is to make wines that represent the land on which the vines grow. He uses few chemicals to combat pests and diseases, he works the poor soils to further improve the drainage and he restricts the yields. All of this is done to increase the chance of making more interesting, higher quality wines.
