Domaine de Rieussec
This ancient domain has been producing wine since at least the ninth century when a Visigoth called Wistrimus gave it to the Abbey at Aniane when he converted to Christianity! Today it is owned and run by Marie-Hélène Deltort whose family have been proprietors for a mere 500 years! Fortunately this does not make this an old fashioned domain, since 2002 a huge renovation has renewed the winemaking facilities and in 2004 wine was made on the property for the first time in several decades.

Rieussec benefits from the remarkable Gassac terroir, in fact it is next door to the legendary Mas de Daumas Gassac. The domain grows the Syrah, Grenache, Carignan, etc, that is so typical of the region, but also some Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The domain’s objective is to produce interesting wines that are recognisably of their place, and they have succeeded in producing some fascinating cuvées. This will be a fascinating domain to follow, with its terroir and the enthusiasm of its owner, it looks like having a bright future.
