Domaine du Grangeon
Christophe Reynouard founded the Domaine du Grangeon in 1998 in the southern part of the Ardeche, where he grows a range of local and international grape varieties and makes fascinating a range of wines. The terroir here consists of a range of hillsides facing southeast to southwest, made up of complex soils that can be best described as poor.
The domain's vines vary in age from just about 10 years old to over 80. Care is taken in the terraced vineyards, to both protect the vines from the wind, and to restrict yields which rarely exceed 35 or 40hl/ha. In the cellar, each parcel of vines and each grape variety is vinified separately, with a short fermentation for some varieties to preserve the fruit flavours for early drinking wines, and long fermentations for those wines designed to have a significant aging potential. The range of wines is great, from dry whites, to a classy Gamay and big reds, to exceptional sweet wines made from dried grapes.
This is a domain where all the wines are of a high quality, with all of them showing some complexity and interest.
