Chateau Mirausse, Clos de l'Azerole
Chateau Mirausse, le Clos de l'Azerole is in Minervois, a region of hills and valleys east of Carcassonne. The appellation effectively forms a large natural ampitheatre facing south east, and bounded to the north by the Black Mountain, and to the south by the Canal du Midi.

Clos de l'Azerole is in the south west part of the appellation on largely limestone and (a little) clay soils. This is a very warm part of the region and is great terroir for Carignan, Grenache and Syrah, though care needs to be taken to ensure the fruit is not left a moment too long allowing the sugars, and the subsequent alcohol, to rise to too high a level - Raymond Julien the proprietor of the domain takes all the care necessary to make exemplary wines.

Le Cendrous 2009

Chateau Mirausse, Clos de l'Azerole
Le Cendrous 2009

A rich complex and generous red wine made largely from Syrah. It has aromas and flavours of purple fruits, black berry, vanilla, a touch of black olive, and sweet spice, with a few notes of oak hiding amongst everything else. The tannins are soft and ripe, the balance is lovely and the long length adds complexity to this generous wine.
