Quartet

A Quartet of Class

Three bottles each of four wines that can only be described as classy! The sole white wine is consistently recognised in the French specialist press as one of the best from the region. The two of the three reds are blends of the traditional grape varieties of Languedoc, with the other incorporating Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend; all are complex, balanced and superb with food. The production levels of these four wines varies from small to tiny, so don’t hesitate as my stocks are bound to deplete rapidly!

The Wines
Domaine des 1000 Roses Carignan Blanc 2007, Vin de Pays des Coteaux du Libron
A truly special wine made from the rare and unusual Carignan Blanc grape variety. It is a golden colour with complex aromas of beeswax, lemon, honey, floral notes and much more. The flavours of this complex, balanced and rich wine are equally interesting, with beeswax, blossom, honey and white fruit in abundance. It is also very long in the mouth. This is a beautifully made special wine
Mas d’Agalis, Cuvée Navis 2006 Vin de Pays des Coteaux du Salagou
A complex wine of outstanding quality made from one third each: Syrah, Grenache and Carignan, a deeply spiced nose opens to reveal much complex fruit. The flavours are similar, but more complex with the dark forest and berry fruits more to the fore, before the lovely spice comes through more on the long finish.
Le Chemin des Rêves, Utopie 3 2007 Vin du Pays de l’Herault
A blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% traditional Languedoc varieties this wine gives a nod to the New World. However, it shows its European heritage in the quality of the deep fruit flavours and aromas, including cassis, blackberry and black cherry, with attractive spice and vanilla, fine grained tannins and a lovely freshness.
Domaine des 1000 Roses, Cuvée Léa 2006 Vin du Pays des Coteaux du Libron
This traditional Languedoc blend of Grenache, Syrah and Carignan is deeply coloured with a multi-faceted nose of red fruits, berry fruits cherry, plum and much spice. The palateis more defined with the berry fruit to the fore with the spice and black olive notes developing in the glass. The wine has lots of complexity of flavour, which is added to by the gentle freshness and wonderful soft, ripe, fine grained tannins and a long persistence of flavour in the mouth.
