L'Ermitage du Pic Saint Loup
Guilhem Gaucelm 2005

One of the great icon wines of Languedoc, the Guilhem Gaucelm is made from roughly equal proportions of old vines Grenache and Syrah grown on the southern flank of the Pic Saint Loup mountain. The wine is wonderfully complex with red and dark berry fruits, black olive, black cherry and spice to the fore. There is also much development, with balsamic and gravy notes. Made without sulphur, this is a superbly balanced masterpiece.

A well coloured red wine from the unsung appellation of Cabrieres, it offers plenty to interest the drinker. It has lovely aromas and flavours of plums, berries and cassis with lots of herbal and spicy notes. Very easy to drink, could be served slightly chilled.

This is a serious red wine with much Cinsault in the blend. It shows much fruit on the nose with cherry, plum, etc. and a palate of black and purple fruits with a nice herbal streak. Well made, this wine is built to impress.

Utopie 3, 2007

A blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% traditional Languedoc varieties this wine gives a nod to the New World. However, this deeply coloured wine shows its European heritage in the quality of the deep fruit flavours and aromas with attractive spice and vanilla and the fine grained tannins and its lovely freshness.

A deeply flavoured, complex, rich wine made from Cabernet Sauvignon. A nose packed with ripe cassis, black fruits, with lovely peppery spice. When drunk it is a mouthfull of rich, smooth, powerful blackcurrant, and black fruit flavours, with plenty of lovely pepper and other spices also evident particularly on the long length. The tannins are beautiful and the wine is very well balanced.

Truly an eye opening Languedoc Cabernet.

Chateau Saint Martin de la Garrigue
Cuvee Saint Martin 2007

A big complex wine based on Mourvedre, Syrah and Grenache, it has a nose full of deep spicy dark fruit aromas with much interesting spice and a touch of animal so characteristic of Mourvedre. The palate is more fruit dominated with lots of dark berry fruit flavours with some good spice and game. The wine is very well balanced with good fine tannins and a good length.

Les Leonides, 2007

A blend of Syrah, Mourvedre, Carignan and Grenache, this is a generous wine. It has a lovely deep purple/ruby colour, with an intense nose that is powerful and full of elderberry, blackcurrant and much other deep blue and purple fruit aromas and a touch of spice. The palate is initially an attack of th same fruit flavours, with much blackcurrant and elderberry initially, followed by much more deep dark smoky fruit and a lovely trace of loganberry, all complemented by some lovely spice.

A Cinsault, Syrah and Grenache based wine, that has lovely complex flavours and aromas of red currant and red cherry up front, with lovely gentle spice and great complex dried herb flavours. The tannins are soft and have a lovely texture, it is long and very well balanced. But what is most impressive about this wine is its elegance and nuanced character.

A good easy drinking Merlot, that has plenty of berry fruit, raisins and a nice touch of smoky spice on the nose and on the palate. The good balance and a nice length help to make this a very easy to drink wine.

Chateau Saint Martin de la Garrigue
Bronzinelle Rouge 2009

An elegant wine made from Syrah, Carignan, Grenache and Mourvedre, this wine has a lovely nose full of blueberry, black currant, raspberry and forest fruits, with a little sweet spice, and a palate that is rich and full of blue and red fruit flavours, with a lovely streak of sweet spice and the merest hint of vanilla. The tannins are ripe, very smooth, soft and silky. Overall it is very well balanced and very easy to drink!
