Tastings & More
Wine Tastings are great fun, and a pleasure to participate in and I really enjoy leading them.
I have been leading tastings for many years, to groups whose interest and knowledge of wine varies from "Beginner" to "Wine Geek".
For Beginners we will tend to begin with tasting technique, and talk about the things to look for associated with the things you see, the aromas and finaly the taste. I will make sure that the range of six to eight wines we have to taste is varied, in an attempt to show the differences between grape varieties and the styles of winemaking.
For an Intermediate type of tasting, where the participants already have some knowledge and interest in wine, we will look in more detail at grape varieties and blends that typify different regions. This may mean we taste four white wines made from grape varieties that typify a region, and four red wines in the same vein.
For the people who really want detail I will be happy to talk about the way the vines have been pruned, yields, winemaking techniques, aging, use of oak, etc., etc. While presenting wines from a specific region, area or producer. Here we might taste 8 wines of an AOC like Pic-Saint-Loup, or even the wines of tow comparable domains to show how different terroirs can influence the wine in the glass.
The types of group I have joined to taste wine have varied from groups of friends meeting in one of their homes, and groups of work colleagues, to wine tasting clubs and groups. People tend to really enjoy my tastings, it is probably due to my passion for wine, and particularly the wines from the South of France. I also have lots of good stories from my year working on a wine producing domain.
If you would like me to run a wine tasting for you, perhaps for a special occasion, or as a team building exerise, or just to discover something new about wine, get in touch by telephone, or via the contact page. A wine tasting will usually cost only the price of the wine plus a contribution to travel costs.
